Knits for Kids

Well, I wasn't sure if I would post a review on this book, but this is uh...my 6-hundred-and-66th post. So I thought, in my own sick and twisted manner: my goodness. How fitting, to blog about knitted critters :)

Now then, if you've ever wanted to deck out your child (or someone else's child - or perhaps even someone who is *not* a child (by age anyway)) but didn't know how to go about it, this is a nice book for inspiration and basic instruction.

As clearly stated on the cover, there are 40 animal-themed accessories in the book for you to shake your sticks and yarn at. The patterns are broken into three categories: Beginner, Easy and Intermediate, and as you can imagine, the book is loaded full of smiling children sporting these pieces of work. Each section begins with the photos, and are followed with the patterns. My personal favorite is Rory, the Lion (found in the easy section).

As I mention above, the book is good for inspiration and basic instruction - I highly recommend checking size, gauge and adapting as required - most of the hats definitely appeared to be too small and/or not deep enough to stay on a child's head (or they simply didn't pull the hats all the way down in the photos - as many are just grazing the tops of the kids' ears). In my (admittedly) very limited experience, the deeper the better when it comes to kids hats - otherwise they seem to sproing right off!

Anyhow, seeing as I don't happen to have any children to be knitting for, I'd be happy to send my review copy onto someone else who might find better use for it. If you'd like to be included, please leave me a comment (and be sure to let me know how to contact you should you win!) and I'll use the trusty random number generator to fire it off. I'll leave this open for oh a week or so (closing June 20th) to accumulate names. Don't forget to tell your friends :D

It's probably no surprise to you that I think that Koala hat is super adorable. I'm all about the knitted critters - toys or otherwise. Please throw me into the random generator pile :-)

Please throw my name in the proverbial hat, too. I have a nephew to knit for... thanks!

I love knitting critters, including wearable ones, and have all sorts of kiddies to knit for -- 2 DGSs (so far), saving things for future grands (niece is that age and married long enough now also). Co-workers and friends are "producing" knit-wearers now also. Please add me to the number system!

I'd love to be thrown into the mix. With two boys and two nieces who always want something made for them, this would go to great use.

I have 2 preschoolers and a soon-to-be-born niece that would look adorable in some of those. It's too bad you don't have any little people to knit for.

This looks like an interesting book. My son had a monkey hat and mittens set when he was 6 months that was adorable. Might be a good idea book for Christmas knitting. Hmmm. Ravelry id: SiobhanBorders

I am an Aussie so of course I love the Koala hat, cannot wait to knit it! friends leave for China next week to adopt a little boy. it would make a great gift for him as it is winter here now. Knitting fun hats for kids for gifts and charity is my passion. I am also hoping for some grandchildren in the next few years.

I love the hat on the cover. My baby would look cute in that. You are right about being careful of sizing. Kids have big heads, even babies!

Please include me in the drawing. Thanks.

HI,
This is my first time to your site and I really enjoy it.
What a great book to knit for those that don't have warmth during the cooler seasons. I sure do agree that deeper is better when it comes to hats and gloves.
Please toss me into the generator...and I am going to pass this site on.
Blessed Be,
Ann
