Kilt Hose, anyone?

Well, I've not had a spare moment to cast on for any new projects yet...so the urban homesteader hat is still in yarnball form (yarn still TBD - I'm thinking Karaoke held double stranded perhaps).

Course the new Knitty just came out, and what do my wondering eyes appear?

Lovely Kilt Hose. In case you're wondering, they aren't for my dear husband - I don't think any amount of cajoling would get him into a kilt. I, on the other hand, do have a kilt - not a traditional one - but a Utilikilt - I love it. And it goes great with my a** kickin boots:

boots

Unfortunately, the above boots seem to like chewing on my leg a wee bit - and I've been thinking about getting my hands on some tall socks to wear with em. At first I was thinking I might knit myself a pair of these:

German Stockings by Cookie A. While these stockings are great, the boots are going to hide a good portion of them, and might muck em up a bit where the tops of the boots are - so perhaps I'm better off with the Kilt Hose - they look simple and straightforward - and even better? They are knit from worsted weight yarn. Can you say speedy stockings?

I think those would go great with those boots! Will you keep them the original color?

I have knit a couple of pairs of kilt hose, and the issue I have found is that often the gauge is so loose, that the fabric is more appropriate to a sweater than a sock. then the wearers complain that it is uncomfortable unfoot. It is fun to knit kilt hose but you have to check the pattern.
ps. your identity area won't let me put my url in so here it is:

Do you have a "bike" to go with those boots...or are they just fashion...

I must look at some older posts....

Just so you know, tonight I finished kilt hose for my husband. They have a Saxon Braid up the front and 2 simple cables along the sides and seed stitch in the back--in other words, a bit fancier than Aislinn's but just to give you a rough idea, took 20 days to knit. Worsted weight Wool-Ease, mostly on #2 dpns, so it goes quickly.

And yeah, I got a utilikilt too and was thinking of knitting up some offensive fuschia and green kilt hose for myself, LOL. I'd wear them with my Doc Martens, if I make them. They'll probably be too hot for me to wear this year but next piping season I can be ready for the first couple of highland games.

DO use some sort of yarn with wool. I used acrylic on his first pair and they don't fit well in the ankle (no stretch) plus the pattern just doesn't, "pop," the way wool does.
